A ball valve or globe valve is a valve or tap that fully or partially stops the flow of a liquid or gas by means of a ball with a hole in it that rotates around its axis perpendicular to the hole. By rotating the ball 90°, the valve goes from open to closed or vice versa. Applications include water supply, gas supply, chemical manufacturing and power stations.
